Christmas Service 2016

Clive Butcher at our Christmas Service 2016
We had great fun at our Christmas service on Sunday - yes a week before Christmas, we know! Keith Smith preached in the first meeting about the Second Coming of Jesus - as Christmas celebrates the first time he came, we looked beyond to what the second coming means and what it may look like.

Then in our second children and families service we had some visitors as well as crafts, Christmas songs, crackers to pull and gifts to unwrap! All were used to help illustrate the good news of the Christmas story - Jesus, God with us! Our Saviour is born.

This was followed by a bring and share meal where lots of good conversations took place and the festive atmosphere was great fun.

Thank you to all who came along and contributed in some way to help make this a very special day.

Merry Christmas!

(We are having a small informal service on Christmas Day in the Church Rooms at Octavia View starting at 10:30am)

Messy Church Launches

Yesterday saw the launch of Messy Church at the Queen Mary Centre, Wisbech hosted by our church (The King's Church, Wisbech). We saw around 30 people attend, both young and old, who all had great fun with the various crafts that were on offer as well as the sporting activity.

This month the theme was 'Past, Present and Future' with an emphasis on the different generations learning from each other and walking the path of faith together. We had a celebration time together were we sung a fun song, learnt about Simeon and Anna in the temple and said a prayer. Then we finished off with a delicious meal of beef pie with vegetables and sponge and custard for dessert!

Our next Messy Church is on Saturday 20th February. Come along and join us!

Churches Together in Wisbech Christian Aid Service

Members of The King's Church Wisbech were glad to be part of the inter-denominational service to mark the start of Christian Aid week on Sunday that was attended by 60 people. It was hosted by the Salvation Army although various churches took charge of certain sections of the service ranging from St. Peters (Church of England), the URC, the Salvation Army and our church also led a section. A brass band led most of the sung worship while our band joined with the Salvation Army worship band and played three songs in our 'style' of music which had the congregation joining in and had a few feet tapping! It was good to hear about the work of Christian Aid through the decades as they celebrate 70 years as an organisation. An offering was also taken for the future work of Christian Aid.

Christmas Day Service 2014

It was with great joy that the free churches from around Wisbech met together in the Queen Mary Centre on Christmas morning to celebrate the birth of Jesus together! This year the event was hosted by The King's Church, Wisbech and the service was very well attended. The srevice was  a combined effort by the ministers from The King's Church, The Salvation Army and the message preached by Graham Licence from Wisbech Baptists who reminded us that Jesus is not just for Christmas day, but for every day of the year. A mixture of traditional carols and modern contempory worship were played by The King's Church musicians  - truly reflecting the different styles of worship of those present.

Thank you for coming and we pray you have a very blessed Christmas!

Lucas and Barclay at 'Impact 2014'

Steve Barclay MP and Jeff Lucas
Churches from around Wisbech and the surrounding area gathered together last night for 'Impact 2014'. Special guests included Steve Barclay MP and Jeff Lucas. Steve shared some of the projects he is involved in that he hopes will help to improve life our town as well as suggestions of ways we can actually get involved, rather than sitting on the sidelines and complaining.

This was echoed by Jeff Lucas who delivered his message with his characteristic blend of humour and wit with some serious points mixed in. We need to be the change we want to see in our society. The church needs to lead the way. We should stop waiting for some superhero to come along and do all the hard work because actually it is ordinary people who change the world! By taking responsibility and going in to address the problems present in our community, by churches standing together and working together we can have a great impact in our world.

Roger Stephens and J Nam

It was good to have Roger Stephens and J Nam from the missionary organisation OMF as our guest speakers on Sunday. We heard about the situation in Japan and how their ideas of God and religion is very different from our own in the West. It was encouraging to hear various stories of lives being transformed by the gospel and by people from all nations coming into a relationship with Jesus.

Having previously worked amongst the Japanese people in Japan, Roger Stephens and J Nam are now working with Japanese people living in Cambridge.

Roger spoke about the challenges faced by missionaries as well as the benefits. One of the main points he stated is that even where we live, even in Wisbech, we can still be missionaries. Wether it is inviting someone into our home for a cup of tea, befriending someone who has moved to the area from a different country, offering practical help to those in need, no matter the nationality: We can demonstrate Jesus and hopefully have a chance to tell them about the gospel that gives us so much hope and joy.
