Messy Fun at Rose Fair

Messy Church set up outside the Queen Mary Centre during the big Saturday Rose Fair event last week. A craft gazebo and bouncy castle were on offer as well as a puppet show. Despite the torrential showers that most managed to dodge, the event was a success and saw many new connections made with many good conversations about Messy Church. The puppet show was a huge success, performing to an audience of about 60 people who were all quite receptive to the gospel message and Bible stories and sings being performed.

Thank you to everyone who helped in any way. If we met you for the first time at the Rose Fair - we hoe you had fun and we look forward to seeing you at Messy Church in September.

India Missions Evening

On Wednesday night Patrick Jonhstone spoke about his recent missionary trip to North-East India. Providing a fascinating world-wide overview of missionary work in the current global climate as well as predicting future problem areas and opportunities for growth, Patrick gave encouragement to the church to engage in mission on a wider scale. He also spoke about his trip as well as some of the people he encountered there and what his visit achieved.

There was time for us to sample some Indian food half way through the presentation. There was also opportunity to ask questions.

Thank you to all who came and to Patrick for an enjoyable and educational evening.

Our Website Makes Awards Shortlist

We are pleased to announce that our church website has just made the shortlist of the Premier Digital Awards 2015 in the 'Accessibility' category.

The Premier Digital Awards are national awards that seek to celebrate and encourage excellence in Christian engagement online. In the spirit of Philippians 4:8 thier aim is to focus attention on those people and projects that can serve as examples of best practice for the benefit of the Church.

Over 800 entries were made in this year's awards for the 16 categories available.

There is an awards ceremony held in central London in mid November where the winners will be announced which follows the Premier Digital Conference that is held earlier in the day, providing encouragement, resources and training for Christians interested in engaging with the digital world.

Magic and Giggles at After Hours Live

Tom Elliott is a stand-up comedian with a difference . . .he is also a magician. Seamlessly weaving in comedy and jokes with his magic show, Tom delighted the After Hours audience. From very funny ventriloquism with audience participation to escaping from a straitjacket as well as the obligatory card trick and some close-up magic, Tom Elliott did a great job! (You could tell by the number of people in the audience who were recording his tricks on their mobile phones!)

Tom stood in for the acclaimed comedian Tony Vino at short notice who was unfortunately stuck on a boat somewhere between Lisbon and Bristol! - Thanks Tom.

Visited by Rachel Hickson

Rachel Hickson preaching at The King's Church Wisbech
We were very blessed by Rachel Hickson's ministry when she came for a visit on Sunday 7th September. Her sermon was about 'Presence, Passion and Power'. Rachel believes God is looking for people who want to get wet with his presence and spirit, and then God will set them on fire with his passion and power!

This was a word in season for our church and touched on sereval points that we are looking to explore more deeply in the coming months.

Thank you to Rachel and to everyone who came from the church.

You can watch Rachel Hickson's sermon again here:

The 12 Days of Christmas

Although the big day is still just around the corner, our church had a get-together in the lovely Octavia's Cafe last Sunday where we had a 'Cafe Church' service, followed by an amazing bring-and-share lunch. The event was complete with Christmas crackers, paper hats and traditional carols.

Clive took the opportunity to talk about one of the 'silly' songs we sung and explained that the song had a deeper significance than we may first think. So why not dive into the depths of 'The 12 Days of Christmas' by clicking on the video link above?

Merry Christmas!

Our gang at the Big Church Day Out 2013

Some of The King's Church Wisbech gang enjoying themselves at the Big Church Day Out 2013

The second bank holiday weekend in May 2013 saw a group of 11 from The King's Church Wisbech pack their tents, sleeping bags, gas cookers and toilet roll into a few cars and head down to Wiston House in West Sussex  for two glorious days of friendship, sunshine and top-quality Christian music!

This was the first time a group from our church had attended the event that is growing from year to year. It features 3 stages that showcase Christian bands from around the world as well as the UK. There is also a fairground, archery, rock-wall climbing and a petting zoo for the kids. Ice-cream vans, a wide variety of food options in the food court, the Tearfund Tea Tent that serves as a music venue as well as a great place for a cream tea on the lawns.

As far as the top-quality Christian music goes, well we were spoilt for choice! Matt Redman, Hillsong Live, Jason Upton, Phil Wickham, Brenton Brown, Dave Bilbrough, Watato Children's Choir, King's Chamber Orchestra, Yazz, Amy Grant, and many more! We had a fantasic time worshipping with thousands of other from around the UK!

Spiritualists, Mediums and the Occult

Have you ever been involved in the use of tarot cards, ouija boards or horoscopes? Have you had your fortune told or visited a medium or a psychic? If you have, you are certainly not alone! Or are you the type of person who thinks all this is a load of hocus-pocus mumbo-jumbo? Again, you are not alone!

In Christian circles, topics like this are often avoided or side-stepped but this is a mistake! Chrisitians believe in the spiritual realm (Heaven, The Holy Spirit, Angels etc). Often the focus is rightly on the positive elements of the spiritual realms, but we ignore confronting and dealing with the darker aspects of them at our peril! The Bible tells us that:
"Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8
The whole area of consulting with mediums comes up in 1 Samuel 28 where King Saul chooses to consult with a meduim rather than with God. In Clive Butcher's sermon series about 'The Life of David' he coveres this whole subject and gives a fantastic insight and Christian perspective to what the occult is, wether it is ok to consult mediums or not and what we should do if we have done so in the past.

Two sermons about the whole subject can be heard (live-streamed) directly from our website.

We welcome your feedback and comments about these sermons. Please use the 'comments' option below.
