Poetry Book launched at After Hours Live Open-Mic Night

Fiona Lankfer reading her poems at After Hours Live
January saw After Hours Live get a fabuolus start for 2014 with the ever popular After Hours Poetry Open-Mic night. This saw several poets and lovers of poetry read poems they had either written themselves or just simply love to read (even if written / published by others). The evening had an added bonus in that it was also the launch event of the new After Hours Live: Little Book of Poetry. Local poets who have read at After Hours events in the past contributed to the book which contains 21 poems that cover a variety of themes, and some with a twist of faith.

The book will be available for purchase at the price of £4 at all After Hours Live events this year. Profits go towards the running costs of After Hours Live.

There is a fantastic line-up of artists for 2014 who will be appearing as apecial guests at After Hours. Among them are Noel & Tricia Richards, Daughters of Davis, Henry Olonga and South African Stand-up Comedian Mark Palmer. Visit the After Hours website for more information or pick up a 2014 'Artist Line Up' card at Octavia's Cafe to keep informed of who is playing/appearing when.

New Year's Eve

Thanks to all those who came and joined in with the Church's New Year's Eve celebrations at the Queen Mary Centre in Wisbech. We had a fabulous time. There was a massive bring-and-share banquet followed by some line dancing and karaoke, while board games and video games were being played in the church rooms.

Half-and-hour before the strike of twelve-o'clock we got together and thanked God for the year that had passed as well as dedicating the future year to Him. We shared in communion together and then at midnight sang Auld Langs Eyne together.

It was a special time. Thanks for joining in and helping to make it special.

The 12 Days of Christmas

Although the big day is still just around the corner, our church had a get-together in the lovely Octavia's Cafe last Sunday where we had a 'Cafe Church' service, followed by an amazing bring-and-share lunch. The event was complete with Christmas crackers, paper hats and traditional carols.

Clive took the opportunity to talk about one of the 'silly' songs we sung and explained that the song had a deeper significance than we may first think. So why not dive into the depths of 'The 12 Days of Christmas' by clicking on the video link above?

Merry Christmas!

Interview on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01n29gl
Terry Wood and Mike Forrest
Two members of our church congregation were interviewed recently by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire about how the church has been involved in the set-up and development of the Ferry Project and how they have helped the lives of many homeless and vulnerable people.

Mike Forrest, and elder of The King's Church Wisbech and Chairman of The Ferry Project tells of how the Ferry Project began by various local churches 'catching the vision' and helping to set up the organisation. He also reads part of the Bible that helps to tie the interview in to the advent theme.

Terry Wood tells of how the Ferry Project helped him to escape a life of drugs and crime. He now works for the organisation and also attends The King's Church Wisbech.

If you haven't listened to the interview, have a listen online now!
